So, my girls are visiting their great-grandparents for the week. Would you like to know how they're doing? Me too! My grandpa sent me this update, so I've copied it here so we could enjoy their adventures together! =)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sunday, about 8:30 AM - We leave Nani's smoothly and, after Saturday's rain, under clear skies.
Sunday, about 8:50 AM - We've got the DVD playing Winnie the Pooh, but Katie wants to also listen to music on the radio. Gram gets the owner's manual out of the glove compartment and we try to figure out how to do that. In the confusion, I miss the exit for 95N off the beltway. Not a big problem. We're resolved that nothing can spoil this trip, and we just continue around to the Wash/Balt Parkway exit.
Sunday, about 9:50 AM - There's some sort of a problem in the Baltimore Harbour Tunnel and traffic is stopped back before the toll booth. In about 15 minutes, the problem is gone and we're rapidly underway again.
We stop for potty and snacks at two consecutive rest areas on the Jersey Turnpike. First time in 30 years of making this trip that we've done that.
Gramp decides to take the "GW" bridge through NYC instead of the Tappen Zee so that the girls can see lots of tall buildings, bridges, etc. The Cross Bronx Xpressway is a bit jammed. Gram says, "A lot of people are going to have a long day." That leads to our first QOTD of the vacation: Katie says, "Well, we're not having a long day. (Brief pause while she thinks about that. Then...) "Well, we are kind of."
Sunday, about 3 PM - we get through NYC and start into Connecticut. About 1/4 mile before an exit, Katie says she needs to go potty. (I expected that to happen on the Cross Bronx) I take the exit ramp not knowing what may be available. (Katie helpfully says she can go in the grass.) At the end of the ramp, there's a McDonald's directly across the street - with a Playland, no less. Perfect.
We get to Beepa and Gigi's a little after 5 PM. We take some time to let the girls settle in, then it's dinner, baths, and a little video before bedtime. We get our second QOTD when Sena calls. We ask Katie is she wants to say Hi to Mom and she says "Umm, no thanks." (In fairness, she was guarding a toy that she thought Julia might want.)
Monday, 6:30 AM - the girls awaken in great moods. After breakfast, etc. we head over to a great playground called, appropriately, "The Impossible Dream". It's a well-known gathering place for Warwick's pre-school set, so Katie and Julia have lots of company. But the place is almost an acre in size, so there's plenty to do. After that, we head to ToysRUs to pick up a couple of tricycles - identical ones to limit the "I want that one now."
As I write this, Julia is napping and Katie is having a semi-quiet time up in our bed.
Four pictures from the Impossible Dream are attached.
Got to run now. We're going to either the beach or the zoo (depending on wake-up time) as soon as nap is over, and we've got some picking up to do first.
Having a blast!!
Love,
Beepa and GiGi
